New auto show plans to rev up next month

The First Auto Show Thailand 2012 (FAST), the newest member of Thailand's myriad motor shows, will be held from Feb 29-March 4 at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Center (Bitec) on Bang Na-Trat Road.

The event is indeed the first auto show on the calendar.

King of Auto Products (KAP), the organiser and subsidiary of Autocar (Thailand), said the inaugural edition of FAST is purely an automobile sales event, with an emphasis on certified used cars.

The combined exhibition space is over 10,000 square metres: indoor space totaling 7,550 square metres will be dedicated to new cars while 3,400 square metres will be for used cars held outdoors.

Chalatchai Paphatphong, vice-chairman in charge of new cars, confirmed the exhibition space has already sold out. "I joined FAST because of my experience organising the International Motor Expo," he said. "This new auto show will boost vehicle sales in the first quarter. I intend to utilise volume control measures and modern IT systems at FAST."

Asadavut Asassapakij, vice-chairman in charge of used cars, added all used cars will be certified with guarantees.

Organisers expect sales of 10,000 used cars and 5,000 new cars during the five-day event that can accommodate over 20,000 visitors per day.

Among the 15 automobile brands, Toyota will has 415 square metres of exhibition space while other brands will have 200-300 square metres.

FAST is a pure sales event and will not feature automotive technology or concept prototypes. Shuttle bus services will be provided for visitors to Bitec from the BTS Bang Na terminal.
