Ranger dies, blast unexplained

One of the three rangers wounded by a hand grenade while travelling in a pickup truck on Monday morning in Yala's Raman district has died in hospital, but the circumstances surrounding the explosion are not yet clear, police said. 

Pol Lt-Col Torphan Pusanthia, chief of Thathong police in Raman district, said investigators rushed to Ban Talo Mangabae in tambon Wang Phaya on Kota Baru-Thung Yang Daeng road after he blast was reported.

He said the three injured rangers - Chatmongkol Thongthammachart, 32, Manas Satsue, 28, and Wichit Chomwichien, 32 - were returning on a pick-up truck from Yala town to the base of the 41st Rangers Company in Raman district.
