The Japanese government has made a 1.88 million baht grant towards building of a waste management centre and promotion of recycling in tambon Samokhae in Muang district of Phitsanulok province, the Japanese embassy announced in Bangkok.

Samokhae lies close to tourist attractions and because of economic development has increasing amounts of waste generated by tourists and workers drawn to city.

The tambon administration has only limited capacity to dispose of and control this garbage, which is accumulating and spreading, giving off a foul smell which pollutes the neighbourhood.
