The Thai people want soldiers to stick to their duties and stay neutral without taking sides with any groups currently involved in the political conflict, according to Suan Dusit Poll.
The poll was carried out between Jan 1-4 on 1,219 people throughout the country to survey their opinion on the role of soldiers in the present situation.
Asked what they want soldiers to do, 45.93% said they want them to be neutral and not to be partial, 24.39% want them to look after the country and protect democracy, 13.82% ask soldiers not to be a political tool for any group and not to allow political interference, 11.38% want them to stand by the people and provide assistance while they are in trouble or facing disasters, and 4.48% want soldiers, particularly the low-ranking, to be given moral support and welfare benefits.
