500 illegal motorcycle-taxi queues

Police have discovered about 500 illegal motorcycle taxi ranks in Bangkok and say they will try to bring them into the legal framework that is now enjoyed by 4,500 groups throughout the capital.

Maj Gen Apirat Kongsompong, who is assigned to head the campaign against motorcycle-taxi extortion rackets, said after inspecting the situation on Rama 9 intersection on Thursday that there were 4,500 legal operators in the capital and another 700 groups were undergoing registration.
