An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale was recorded in Mae Suai district of Chiang Rai province just before dawn Monday, the seismology office of the Meteorological Department reported.
There were no reports of damage or casualties.
The epicentre of the quake was reported to be about six kilometres underground, near the Chiang Mai province border.
