Royal Ploughing Ceremony

Preparations are under way for the Royal Ploughing Ceremony next Friday. This year, agriculture permanent secretary Chalermporn Phirunsarn is the Lord of the Plough and will be accompanied by four kuharb plough-assistant maidens.
The kuharb thong (golden carrier) maidens are Duenpen Jaikong, of the Queen Sirikit Department of Sericulture, and Sornchanok Wongprom, an engineer attached to the Fisheries Department.
The kuharb ngern (silver carrier) maidens are Siriluck Somsakul, an accountancy specialist from the Royal Irrigation Department, and Jessadaporn Sathapattayanont, of the Agricultural Extension Department.
On the day of the event, the procession of the plough, led by Mr Chalermporn, will also comprise 16 escorts and four royal decoration bearers. "Fah" and "Sai" will be the sacred oxen and "Therd" and "Thoon" are the reserve oxen.
