The Royal Thai Navy’s Marine Corps landed in Narathiwat as part of its training exercise on Wednesday. HTMS Angthong, the new landing platform dock ship, was deployed for the first time in the training alongside 12 other ships. The RTN's 2014 exercise started from the Gulf of Thailand to Narathiwat HTMS Angthong, the biggest landing platform dock ship of the RTN, along with 12 other ships, sailed from the Gulf of Thailand and the troops landed in Narathiwat. The exercise aims to prepare the RTN for possible threats. The training also tests the performances of officers and their commanders, as well as their responses and coordination in face of danger. The objective is to train its officers to optimise the use of resources and personnel. RTN commander Adm Narong Pipatnasai monitors the exercise at the naval base in Muang district, Narathiwat.
