Over a thousand dogs saved from the dinner table in recent months are being cared for at the Nakhon Pathom Animal Quarantine Station in Isan. Many of the animals have been rescued from traffickers en route to neighbouring countries, where dog meat is sold for human consumption. Rather than crossing the Mekong River towards a restaurant as their final destination, the rescued canines are instead sent to the quarantine station to receive medical treatment.
