A robber of a bank in Singapore last week has been arrested after fleeing to Thailand, police said on Monday.

Central Investigation Bureau commissioner Pol Lt Gen Thitirat Nongharnphithak confirmed the arrest by Phaya Thai police on Sunday but refused to give more details as the Thai police are coordinating with their Singapore counterparts.

The gender, name, age and nationality of the suspect have not been disclosed.

The arrest followed an alert by Singapore police to Thailand that the suspect had left the city state to Thailand after robbing a branch of Standard Chartered Bank on Holland Avenue on Thursday and making off with about S$30,000 (780,000 baht).

"The Singapore authorities are currently engaging our counterparts in Thailand to see whether the suspect can be released into our custody," the Singapore police said on its Facebook account on Monday.

The Singapore police did not specify when the suspect left the country to enter Thailand, only that the robber fled "shortly after the crime was reported".
