SINGAPORE - Changi Airport said it temporarily closed one of its terminals and warned of flight delays after a fire broke out this evening at the facility.
The fire at terminal two has been put out, local police said in a Twitter posting. Singapore Airlines Ltd, the city's biggest carrier, said all flights arriving and departing from that facility will be delayed, according to a Twitter posting.
Flight operations were affected after the fire alarm was activated at about 5.40 pm local time due to smoke coming out through the vents, the airport said. All flights from that terminal will be moved to Terminal 3 until further notice, it said.
Changi Airport, with its three terminals, is the main hub for Southeast Asia and is one of the busiest in the world. Singapore handled 58.7 million passengers in 2016, making it one of the top 20 airports in the world by traffic, according to preliminary data released by the Airports Council International.
