Thai Yellow Shirts convicted of slandering Thaksin

A Thai court convicted two prominent members of the royalist "Yellow Shirt" protest movement Thursday of defaming fugitive former premier Thaksin Shinawatra by accusing him of insulting the monarchy.

Thailand's People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) leader Sondhi Limthongkul (C) arrives at the Criminal Court in Bangkok on September 2, 2010. A Thai court convicted Sondhi and Soracha Pornudomsak, two prominent members of the royalist "Yellow Shirt" protest movement of defaming fugitive former premier Thaksin Shinawatra.

Media mogul Sondhi Limthongkul and Soracha Pornudomsak, who together hosted a show on Sondhi's pro-Yellow television channel, were each handed fines and a six-month jail sentence suspended for two years by a Bangkok criminal court.

Better to keep this case under the carpet rather
than delivering such a nonsense verdict !

How could a court grant standing to lawyers for a fugitive from justice? If law requires this then the law ought be changed. How is it possible to defame a convicted criminal who is a fugitive from justice? It would seem that a court could require the presence of the initiator of the defamation charge to appear in court at least once.
