US losing war in Afghanistan: Taliban leader

The leader of the Taliban said the West is losing the war in Afghanistan and called on Afghans to repel the "invading infidels" as experts urged the US to scale back troops and goals.

File photo shows a pro-Taliban supporter standing in front of a graffiti reading "Long live holy fighter Mullah Muhammad Omar" in Killi Nalai, a village near the Pakistan and Afghanistan border. Taliban leader Omar said the NATO-led coalition is losing the war in Afghanistan, calling on Afghans to redouble their struggle and pressing the United States to withdraw.

Mullah Omar, the one-eyed Taliban leader believed to be in hiding in Pakistan, said on Wednesday that strategists behind the nine-year-old Afghan war realised they were mired in "complete failure".
