PM denies truce signed

Govt emphasises need for detailed negotiation

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva denies a ceasefire agreement has been signed with Cambodia.

The prime minister said again in his weekly broadcast address yesterday that his government believed that a lasting solution to the border dispute could only come through careful negotiation.

Association of Southeast Asian Nations foreign ministers meet in Jakarta tomorrow to find ways to solve the border dispute, but Mr Abhisit said the regional grouping would only act as a coordinator and as a witness, as well as provide a facility for talks between Thailand and Cambodia.

Maybe Thailand and Cambodia should invite Laos since we still do have maps of our own during the French colony? We know Thailand took half of Laos territory in the past, and we will never forgive or forget about what has happen during the clash with us.

It's all Abhisit political game to secure the upcoming election, but the fact he knows the whole story about the ceasefire along the border. Well who doesn't want peace?

    @mphilips
Ok. Let's say ICL could not give legal judgment on the map or border.
    - What did ICJ base on for this case to Preah Vihear case? Maps. right?
    - That map has been used internationally. I heard that UN also has it.
    - How about Thailand? They use the secret own draw internal map to talk with Cambodia.
That's why Cambodia need observer or third party.

I believe no one will accept own-draw map. If they do, I'll draw one :)

D37, did you read the dissenting remark ?

Basically, the ICJ majority said "The court proceedings focused not on questions of cultural heritage or on which state was the successor to the Khmer Empire, but rather on Siam's long-time acceptance of the 1907 map" and completely ignorign the fact that the Siamese more than 'objected' to the map in several occasions by occupying the physical territory like the occasion in 1941.

Now Thai troops don't obey or follow Thai's premier orders any more. While Cambodian and Thai troop commanders signed for "ceasfire agreement", The Thai's premier said there was no agreement signed.

Maybe the Thai's commanders don't want Thai's premier and the FM know about agreement avoiding him saying something flip-flopped to the world.

    To Spiceman D#35 & 32

-Do you what the roles of Superiorpowers are?
    -Are you afraid of Superiorpowers?
-Have you read the ICJ verdict, Preah Vihear temple case?

    To D#34 Sunnyjim

-What do you think if one guy, Minister of Foriegn Affair, said in the press conferene that China, Inia, Russia are behind Cambodia? Do you think his assumption was foolish or not? pls tell me !!

Khun Spiceman #32: No, the UK is NOT legit, neither are China, or the US, or Russia. Therefore, by your own logic and reasoning, neither is Thailand. I am glad to see that you finally agree that Thailand should stop this attempt at taking Cambodian land.

Khun Narath 37, I guess ICJ has to enforce its own ruling if it dares. As Khun Sunnyjim #34, kindly, pointed out that unless substantial money can be gained, those nations would give only lip service. So, at the end, it will have to come down to a military showdown between the two Buddhist neighbors over a worthless Hindu ruin.
