ICJ orders troops withdrawn

THE HAGUE - The International Court of Justice on Monday voted 11 to 5 to order both Thailand and Cambodia to withdraw their troops from the 4.6 square kilometre disputed area around the Preah Vihear temple to reduce military confrontation along their border.

The ruling was in response to Cambodia's petition to the ICJ on April 28 for an interpretation of the 1962 verdict awarding sovereignty over the Preah Vihear temple to Cambodia.

What do the ICJ judges think they are? God? Come-on?

For those with short memory . . .
"Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya said ... that the court has no enforcement power, but as a good UN member country, Thailand would comply with its decision. Mr Kasit also said earlier that if the ICJ ordered Thailand to withdraw troops, it should order Cambodia to do the same...'Thailand will respect the ICJ's decision, but the body has no authority to order Thai troops to retreat. Thai soldiers won't step back from our territory', Gen Prawit said" http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/240596/thailand-set-to-defy-any-border-order

Another sad day for the Army, it likes a slap on the face. Hopefully this verdict will bring peace and economical prosperity to the region. Enough is enough, please stop using this as a political gain, and recently election result clearly showed that the public were not into this kind ultra nationalism.

Got to love this European bunch, they certainly know how to waste time. They acted like they're doing something while doing absolutely nothing!

The temple row was just a desperate attempt from former PM Abhisit to boost his vanished popularity stirring up ugly nationalism. Now that he lost the elections, the situation should normalize itself quickly in the best interest of both countries and their people. Hopefully the new government will know how to send the men in green back to their barracks and cut their budget accordingly.

Is ICJ nonsense trying to make PV a demilitarized zone? Good luck with that!

Somchai (#1) and Meme (#15) - sorry to disappoint you. The judgement calls for IMMEDIATE withdrawal of both sides' forces from the designated area. As Abhisit remains caretaker PM for at least until Parliament convenes and votes for a new PM who then has to receive royal assent, it is Abhisit who has to give the order. Will he dare?

It will be fun to watch the new government ordering the troop withdrawal. The fugitive PM can go to Phnom Penh to shake hand with his buddy.

somchai, blind nationalism is the cause of wars. i suggest that thailand wakes up and be more pragmatic to be part of an international community. This i also suggest to the PAD , or as i call them PAF..peoples action for facisism.
