Charlie Wi flirted with a 59 for much of his round before finishing with a nine-under 61 to seize a share of the first-round lead at the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
Charlie Wi of South Korea hits his second shot on the 12th hole during the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am the Monterey Peninsula Country Club (Shore Course), on February 9, in Pebble Beach, California.
South Korea's Wi, who played the easier of the three courses, on Thursday said he didn't realize how close he was to magic 59 number because he thought organizers had set the Monterey Peninsula course as a par-72 instead of its actual par-70.
