169 dead in N. Korea floods

Floods that hit parts of North Korea in recent weeks killed 169 people and left 400 missing, the state news agency said on Saturday, sharply updating earlier casualty figures.

A photo taken last week by North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency shows a flooded area at Anju city in South Phongan province.

United Nations agencies have visited the worst-hit areas to assess aid needs and the World Food Programme (WFP) is sending an initial shipment of emergency food aid.
