A casino heist movie that owes much to Steven Soderbergh's "Ocean's" series has become the highest-grossing South Korean film in history, taking in more than $80 million at the domestic box office.
South Korean actress Jun Ji-hyun plays a thief in Choi Dong-hun's 2012 heist thriller "The Thieves", filmed in Macau. Macau served as the backdrop for the recent big-budget blockbuster, the second-most successful South Korean film in history after 2006's "The Host".
As of Thursday "The Thieves", shot in Macau and bringing together some of the biggest stars in the Korean film industry, had been seen by 13 million moviegoers and earned 93.6 billion won ($84 million), its distributor Showbox said.
