KNU peace negotiator dies aged 65

David Thaw, a senior leader of the Karen National Union (KNU) who was considered to be pro-Myanmar government, died on Sunday night in a military hospital in Yangon, according to sources in the Myanmar exile community.

Thaw, 65, the secretary of the KNU Peace Committee and a key member of the KNU team negotiating with the Myanmar government, died in Mingaladon Hospital, which is considered the best hospital in the capital, the activists said.

The news was first broken yesterday morning by Ko Ko Lay, a US citizen and a former Myanmar student leader, at a press conference held in Bangkok.
