A person living in one of China’s first-tier cities such as Shanghai or Beijing would need at least 9,250 yuan ($1,480) per month to lead a comfortable life, reported Shanghai Daily Tuesday.
This was one of the findings of a recent online survey carried out by the Xinhua news agency, which also revealed that the figure of 9,250 yuan represents more than twice the average monthly income of Shanghai workers for 2011 of 4,331 yuan.
