Communal violence rocks Myanmar, many dead

Surging sectarian violence in western Myanmar has left at least 64 people dead and scores more wounded, a local official said on Friday, as conflict cast a shadow over the government's reform drive.

People have fled their homes in droves following the latest clashes in Rakhine state, where months of communal tensions have torn apart communities and left tens of thousands of mainly Muslim Rohingya living in squalid camps.

"The total death toll is 34 men and 30 women," Rakhine state spokesman Win Myaing told AFP.

The problem with Muslims is that they all have too many children, and when they run of land in their own country, they have to migrate to other countries. Millions of them have been migrating to Europe, which is in desperate need of labor. Myanmar, however, is a poor country that can hardly support itself, let alone, the new comers from Bangladesh. And when resources are stretched beyond limit, a clash is inevitable.

These people assaulting the refugees are Aung San Suu Kyi's rank and file - which they will not report in the news. It is led by these so-called "monks" that led the Saffron Revolution. There is more to this story the Western press will not report on. Bangladesh on Thursday mobilised extra patrols along its river border with Myanmar amid reports of dozens of boats carrying Rohingya Muslim refugees fleeing the clashes.

Who is reporting the truth? The Bangladesh government is patrolling to keep them out of Bangladesh.

ASEAN where are you? Is non-interference your only moral standard? Do you remember that you promised "respect for fundamantal freedoms, the promotion and protection of human rights, and the promotion of social justice", The ASEAN Charter, Jakarta, 2008. Do you accept the claim of the Government of Myanmar that the Rohingya are not Burmese citizens, even though they live under Burmese jurisdiction? Even if your Charter is worthless, are you not aware that all those living within any national boundaries have a right to a nationality (Article 15, Universal Declaration of Human Rights)? Why do you remain silent in face comment by others?
