Obama to meet Suu Kyi, Myanmar president in Rangoon

Barack Obama will meet Myanmar democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi and President Thein Sein on a historic first visit to the country by a sitting US president designed to boost a political reform drive.

US President Barack Obama meets with Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi in the Oval Office of the White House in September 2012. Obama will meet Suu Kyi and President Thein Sein on a historic visit to Myanmar this month to back an accelerating political reform drive.

The White House said Thursday that Obama would also visit Thailand and attend the East Asia summit in Cambodia on the November 17-20 trip, which will mark his return to the world stage following his re-election.
