Jakarta to build 'world class' stadium

Construction will begin on a "world class" 50,000 capacity football stadium in Jakarta next year, according to the city's governor.

The US$109 million new home of Persija football club - homeless since their Menteng stadium was demolished in 2006 - will be built at BMW Park in Sunter, North Jakarta.

“We’ll begin preparations for the construction next year, and expect to complete it in two years. It will be a world-class stadium,” Governor Joko Widodo told the Jakarta Globe on Monday.
