Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, a much-loved Australian public figure, famed philanthropist and mother of News Corp. tycoon Rupert, has died at the age of 103, her family said.

Appointed a dame for her charitable work by Queen Elizabeth II in 1963, she passed away at her Cruden Farm home in the Melbourne suburbs on Wednesday evening.
