Australian police seize $81 million of cocaine

Australian police Friday said they had seized cocaine shipped from Chile worth up to Aus$77 million (US$81 million), the third global drug syndicate busted in as many weeks.

Some of the cocaine and methamphetamines worth A$237 million ($246 million) discovered in Australia in a shipment from China of heavy machinery, November 21, 2012. After a three-month probe, Australian police seized more cocaine December 7, 2012, in a shipment from Chile.

The 135-kilogram (298-pound) seizure followed a three-month Australian Federal Police investigation and led to the arrest of five men -- three Australians, one Italian and one Mexican.
