North Korea launched a long-range rocket on Wednesday, in defiance of UN sanctions threats over what Pyongyang's critics insist is a disguised ballistic missile test.

A North Korean Unha-3 rocket is pictured at Tangachai -ri space center in April 2012. North Korea carried out Wednesday a widely criticised rocket launch, seen by many in the international community as a disguised ballistic missile test, the South Korean defence ministry said.

"It (the rocket) has been launched," a South Korean defence ministry spokesman told AFP without elaborating further.

Wow ! With the Mayan calendar predicting the end of the world on the 21st Dec., or at least major changes in the world. This report about the North Koreans may have significance.
