Indian gang-rape victim cremated, was due to marry

The victim of a gang-rape and murder which triggered an outpouring of grief and revulsion across India was cremated at a private ceremony on Sunday as it emerged she was planning to marry in February.

The unidentified 23-year-old, the focus of nationwide protests since she was attacked on a bus in New Delhi two weeks ago, was cremated at a ceremony kept secret by authorities only hours after her body was repatriated from Singapore.

The funeral pyre was lit after traumatised relatives and friends said their final prayers at a ceremony in southwestern Delhi, according to mourners who revealed she had been due to wed a boyfriend who was injured in the same attack.

I learned that the Bus Driver is one of the "main" suspects arrested. In fact he was the main perpetrator.

Thailand is not strictly against a rape incident.
And the public peoples also doesn't criticize them and the judge of the court.

Where's the BUS DRIVER all this time? Thrown from a moving bus says the Bus Driver was in on it too! Why not more publicity about him?

Nitnoi, I agree that castration is a good solution but they can get supplimentary tesosterone, AMPUTATION is a far better solution......with repair illegal. Then life in prison under hard terms.

Another demonstration of how the public view and those of officials (especially male) are often at odds. Many societies and religions still live in the dark ages and see the female as somehow on a lesser plane. As with this case, I feel that the only chance for change is when the public rises up and demands the changes. The male arrogance and feelings of superiority are grossly misplaced.

The lust to inflict extreme violence and pain on others in some of the comments here sounds alarmingly like the unreasoning lust that led to the rape.

Perhaps we can do better, be a little more civilised and rational than the ugly cultural traditions that lead to the rape, and perhaps also to some of these comments.

The rapists should certainly be punished, and now that their victim has died, they are also guilty of murder for which they must also be punished, but let's not lower ourselves to their level.
