Myanmar ministry to drop newspaper defamation case

Myanmar's mining ministry on Thursday said it had applied to drop its defamation case against the Voice Weekly newspaper, which had reported allegations of graft at the government department.

Myanmar Buddhist monks hold placards during a protest against a recent crackdown on villagers and monks protesting against a Chinese-backed copper mine in Monywa, northern Myanmar, in downtown Yangon on November 30, 2012. Myanmar's mining ministry on Thursday said it had applied to drop its defamation case against the Voice Weekly newspaper, which had reported allegations of graft at the ministry.
