Dreamliner battery picture shows heavy blackening

A picture released Friday by Japanese investigators probing the emergency landing of a Dreamliner that grounded the Boeing 787 worldwide showed the battery was apparently charred and blackened.

Picture released by the Japan Transport Safety Board on Janaury 18, 2013 shows the damaged main battery (L-top) and its top cover (L-bottom) and sub battery (R-top) and its top cover (R-bottom) of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner plane for All Nippon Airways after the plane made an emergency landing in the Japanese city of Takamatsu on January 16 after smoke was reportedly seen inside the cockpit.

Scorch marks were evident on the blue casing of the aircraft's main battery which also showed evidence of some kind of a seemingly tar-like liquid that appeared to have boiled over and leaked down the side.
