Australia 'pivots' to Asia

The "9/11 decade" is over and Australia's national security focus is switching firmly to the Asia-Pacific region, Prime Minister Julia Gillard has declared.

And she concided that the most crucial security threats to Australia "are the obvious ones, Islamist terrorism, and we live in an unstable world".

Her views and opinions are not pattern on the USA or Uk' perception. It is clear to that she is speaking solely in their behalf as an independent nation

Australia’s umbilical cord is still firmly attached to Great Britain, with the Queen as the official “Head of State”. Al Qaeda or not, all of Australia’s previous military adventures / expeditions were in conjunction with the USA and/or GB; Australia, for all practical purposes, is an extension of the Anglo-Saxon group of nations, the “blood is thicker than water” logic expounded during WW2. Again, given Australia’s historical records, any sudden interests in the Asia-Pacific regions must be viewed in this perspective.

al-Qaeda in retreat ? what planet is she living on. talk about fighting the last wars. What does she think happened in Algeria last week. Amazing. saying Al Qaeda is in retreat is like saying China is rising peacefully. Dream on.
