Suu Kyi 'could be president'

HONOLULU, Hawaii - Myanmar opposition icon Aung San Suu Kyi has voiced confidence that the country's powerful military will support changes to the constitution that would allow her to become president.

Myanmar opposition icon Aung San Suu Kyi, pictured on July 6, 2011, has voiced confidence that the country's powerful military will support changes to the constitution that would allow her to become president.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner, who spent most of two decades under house arrest until recent reforms, said she was hopeful that parliament will approve constitutional revisions even though the army controls a vital number of seats.

    Should she become president there'll probably be some severe financial repercussions for some Thai elites who've been doing business with the Burmese army generals for several years. Their names, if they were published, would sound very familiar to Thai people. And more than likely the country's name would be restored to 'Burma'.

    hopefully the great lady will one day bring true democracy and to serve her people of burma,as a good example to her neighbors,where it leaves the mega business deals,most probaly high and dry in the desert
