S.Korea to boost Myanmar ties

SEOUL - South Korean President Lee Myung Bak told visiting Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi Tuesday that Seoul wants to help her country create greater economic opportunities for its people.

"Economic development and democratisation should be realised at the same time," Lee said to the democracy campaigner and former political prisoner, according to the presidential office.

    Glad to see Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi making overtures with South Korea. It offsets and to an extent ameliorates the Myanmar military's ties and relations with North Korea. Hard to do, but would be good to see Myanmar as a country in the region that is able to deal with both North and South Korea. North Korea's belligerence and recent referral to the USA as its "arch-enemy" won't help, but perhaps the North might see Myanmar's advantages gradually come from the US and give it a try,

    This country (Myanmar) must work hard first to fix all its internal problems such as politics and corruption to gain the trust and confidence of its people to the government before any thing else. No matter how much helps you pour into that nation, if these main problems will not be address, every efforts or helps extended will go futile.
