Philippine senator’s wife fined in US

The wife of a Philippines senator has been fined $40,000 (1.2m baht) and ordered to forfeit another $199,700 (6m baht) in the United States after pleading guilty to cash smuggling.

Marissa Tadeo Lapid, wife of Senator Manuel “Lito” Lapid, was also sentenced to five months of home confinement and 36 months probation.

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have confirmed that the 55-year-old was sentenced on Feb 4.

    There's too much corruption in the world these days in every country. I used to think Thailand was terrible but even the US and Europe have fallen backwards into open and accepted corruption. Morality seems to be a thing of the past for society. There are moral individuals but society has lost its way and now praises sinners.

    Is this some new law or regulation. It must not have been around when Marcos was salting millions of U.S. aid to the Phillipines. Maybe I'm just confused. And sometimes I lie in bed at night wondering what ever became of all those shoes.

    Influential people cannot get away with the same things they do in their own county, good to see that US legal system cannot be bought.
