A government tourism committee has approved in principle a proposal to lower the minimum education requirement for tour guides.
The current level of education required is a bachelor's degree. Under the plan, the minimum level would be reduced to a Mathayom 3 (Grade 9) certificate.
Anuparb Gaysornsuwan, acting director-general of the Department of Tourism, said a lower education threshold would enable more tour guides to enter the industry to provide services for foreign tourists.
