Manila objects to China fishing patrols

- +

The Philippines objected Tuesday to China sending fishing patrol vessels to parts of the South China Sea claimed by Manila.

Beijing said it would conduct what it called "routine" fishery patrols around the disputed Spratly Islands as well as other disputed areas in the South China Sea.

"We again call on China to respect our territorial sovereignty and exclusive economic zone," the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs said, using the local name for the South China Sea.
