Anwar denies backing sultan's men

Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has denied backing the deadly intrusion of armed Filipino clansmen in Sabah.

"The presence of militant insurgents is to me unacceptable. I believe the security forces have to act swiftly," says Anwar Ibrahim (AFP photo).

At least 28 people, mostly militants, have been reported killed following air and ground assaults against the group by Malaysian security forces on Monday.

The poor decision by the Malaysian government to attack instead of negotiation is coming back to haunt them. It has now open up to a wider guerilla war and may resemble the unrest in the South. More fighters from the MNLF whose members are fellow clansmen are joining the fight. It also now become an election nightmare as most Sabahians are Phillipino descent and do not take kindly to the unproportionate killings by the Malaysian military.
