Police have caught a man suspected of stabbing to death a cleaning woman at an office building in Bangkok on Monday.

Songyot Saekee, 33, was arrested in Bang Pa-in, Autthaya province, after the Criminal Court had approved a warrant on charge of murder and publicly carrying a weapon without a licence.

Mr Songyot confessed to killing Silanee Radomsuk from Ratchaburi in a fit of jealousy, according to police

He told investigators he had a quarrel with her as he felt she was trying to break up with him after getting together for three months.

Police will bring him to a media briefing at the Bangkok Metropolitan Police headquarters in Bangkok on Tuesday afternoon before seeking his detention.

Pol Lt Gen Sanit Mahataworn, acting Bangkok police chief, said the suspect, a delivery man, and the victim had been together for three months.

On Monday, Mr Songyot allegedly came to see the victim without telling her in advance and they had a fight, prompting him to pick up a 12-inch knife in a nearby room and stab her.

Police are collecting evidence and have not ruled out a premeditated murder charge if the evidence warrants it.

The murder took place on Monday afternoon. Police were reported at 1pm a cleaning woman was killed on the 27th floor of  Siam Cement Group rents offices on the floor.

They found a dead woman lying in front of a delivery lift. She was identified as Silanee Radomsuk from Ratchaburi.

The victim had multiple stab wounds in the neck, chest and back. There were also blood trails in the foyer. The floor had a card-scan security system to control access.

Witnesses said the victim was an outsourced cleaning woman supplied by a company.

From closed circuit camera footage, police suspected a man in jeans with close-cropped hair and a brown messenger bag who delivered goods to the building.

Before the murder, the suspect and the victim reportedly had a heated quarrel in front of the delivery lift and started pushing each other.

The suspect then pushed a nearby closed-circuit camera the other way. He then allegedly stabbed her and cleaned his hands in a toilet before leaving the building and taking an MRT train at the Thailand Cultural Centre station.

Police found a long knife dropped in a trash can inside the toilet.
