Teen robs kiddies' piggy banks, buys booze

BURI RAM — A 16-year-old boy was arrested on Wednesday on charges of stealing money from children’s piggy banks in a child development centre in Khu Muang district and spending it on alcohol for himself and his friends.

Police said the boy broke into the Ban Jik Noi Child Development Centre through a window on Tuesday night and smashed more than 20 piggy banks belonging to toddlers aged 2 to 4. He made off with 2,500 baht. 

Police apprehended the young thief at his home which is only 200 metres from the centre. 

The boy, whose name is withheld because of his age, confessed to using a knife to prise open a window and raiding the children’s piggy banks. He told police he spent all the money on booze and roving around with friends from a nearby village.  

Police charged him with theft in a government compound and took him to the Juvenile and Family Court for further proceedings.
