Life sentence for policeman's murder upheld

The Appeals Court on Thursday upheld a life sentence given a Muser tribesman for murdering a police officer in Khamphaeng Phet's Sai Ngam district in 2011.

The lower court was told, Simu Jayo, 53, a Thai national of Muser origin, opened fire at Pol Col Krirkrit Niyomserm, chief of Sai Ngam district police, while he was washing a car in front of his house in tambon Nakhon Sawan Tok in Muang district of Nakhon Sawan province on April 19, 2011, killing him.

Simu said he was offered 100,000 baht by a man called Tai to kill Pol Col Krirkrit.

The Criminal Court on July 3, 2015 found him guilty of premeditated murder under the Criminal Code and the Firearms Act and sentenced him to death.  The death sentence was commuted to life because he confessed.

The defendant appealed for lighter punishment.

The Appeals Court found no reason to back up the appeal and upheld the life sentence against him.
