ATM with B4m stolen in Suphan Buri

SUPHAN BURI -- A Krungthai Bank automatic teller machine in Bang Pla Ma containing 4.2 million baht cash was stolen from in front of a restaurant early Sunday, police said.

Pol Capt Supakorn Onsuebsai, a duty officer at Bang Pla Ma district police station, said police led by Pol Maj Gen Passarawin Pongpipatpakin, the provincial police chief, went to Mae Buay restaurant where the ATM had been installed to investigate the theft.

From footage of a surveillance camera at the restaurant, at least two men were seen arriving in a white Isuzu pick-up truck whose licence plate number could not be clearly seen. One man, wearing a cap to hide his face, walked to the ATM while the other went to the security camera and turned it away from the machine, pointing it at the ground.

The two men managed to remove the ATM from its base and took it away in the pick-up truck. A check revealed that there was 4,277,500 baht cash inside.

Pol Maj Gen Passarawin said he believed the thieves knew all about the ATM and the security system as they first cut off the alarm signal before removing the machine.

With footage from the restaraunt's security camera, he believed the culprits would soon be caught.
