Indian businessman robbed in Pattaya

CHON BURI -- An Indian businessman was robbed of a small amount of cash by two women on a motorcycle in the resort town of Pattaya early Sunday, police said.

Pol Capt Sombat Kaewmoonmuk, a duty officer at Pattaya police station, said the incident occurred at about 1.30am in Soi 9 off Pattaya Beach road behind the police station in tambon Nong Prue of Bang Lamung district.

Hussain Qureshi, 49, a leatherware businessman, told police that while he and a friend were walking in the soi two knife-wielding women arrived on a motorcycle and robbed him of 7,000 baht, 2,000 rupees (1,030 baht) and US$200 (7,000 baht) and some important documents before speeding away.

On receiving the complaint, police radioed checkpoints to intercept the women but failed to find them. Checks of security cameras also revealed no traces of the alleged robbers.

Police said they would continue to pursue the case.
