Shot gold shop owner found in Khwae Noi River

KANCHANABURI -- Divers searching the Khwae Noi River on Saturday night retrieved the body of the owner of a gold shop in Thong Pha Phum district, police said.

A team of divers was sent to the river at about 7pm after Chalermphon Hongyong, chairman of Region 7 Divers Club, was informed by local residents that they found traces of a car having slid from a road down a steep bank into the river near Ban Prang Kasi in tambon Thakhanun.

Following the marks, the divers went on a boat into the middle of the river to begin a search. With lighting equipment, they found a white Honda City about five to six metres under water.

In the car, the divers saw the body of a man sitting in the left front seat. It took them about an hour to break open the car window and retrieve the body because of a strong current.

The man had been shot four times in the chest.

He was later identified as Opas Chaosuan, the owner of a gold shop in Thong Pha Phum district. The divers were still collecting items in the car to be used as evidence in the case.

Pol Col Wuthipong Yenjit, the district police chief, said an investigation was underway to find the culprits.
