PATHUM THANI -- The mother of a 7-year-old schoolboy viciously beaten with a stick by a woman teacher took him to a hospital for a psychological examination on Wednesday.

Boonsueb Khanthong, 50, said her son, a Prathom Sueksa 1 student at Sang-am Witthaya School, trembled with fright whenever he heard people talk about the beating.

She was worried and arranged for him to see a child psychologist at Thammasat Chalerm Phra Kiat Hospital in Khlong Luang district on Wednesday.

Mrs Boonsueb filed a complaint with Khlong Luang police early this week, accusing the newly graduated teacher of beating her son 99 times with a wooden stick wrapped with adhesive tape after he left the classroom before the lesson ended.

Mrs Boonsueb said that after the beating teacher's mother came to see the boy and offered 50,000 baht as a settlement of the case. She turned down the offer because the teacher had badly overacted.

Members of a fact-finding committee set up by the Zone 1 Education Office had since come to talk to her and her son.

Thanakorn Pongthanakul, the lawyer, said he would take the boy back to Khlong Luang police on Thursday for further questioning.

It was his understanding police would summons the teacher to report for questioning before the New Year.

The young teacher has been named in Thai media as Chalida Paijitprapaporn.
