Si KA KET - A 12-year-old boy has been accused of raping a 9-year-old girl and threatening to kill her if she told anyone.
The girl, a Prathom Suksa 3 (Grade 3) pupil in Kantharalak district of this northeastern province, was accompanied by her 51-year-old grandmother and Ms Chanthee Somma, head of Si Sa Ket provincial children's and family welfare home, to file a complaint at Bungmalu police station on Wednesday, Thai media reported.
The grandmother wanted police to take action against the 12-year boy, a Prathom Suksa 6 (Grade 6) at a local school, accusing him of threatening and raping her granddaughter at her house in tambon Pupamok.
The girl told police she was assaulted about 9.30am on Dec 24 while she was at home alone. Her grandparents had left to tap latex at their rubber plantation early that morning.
The boy, a neighbour, climbed in through a window, frightening her, and attacked her, she said. Before fleeing, he threatened to slash her throat and kill her if she told anyone else about it.
The grandmother said the girl was gripped by fear but finally plucked up courage and told a close friend at school what had happened. The friend told her family, and the story eventually reached her ears, the grandmother said.
Questioned, the girl admitted it was true. So she took her grandchild to the provincial child welfare home for help.
Ms Chanthee said the girl was now under the care of the child welfare home. The boy would face legal action. Police would ask the boy’s parents to bring him in for questioning.
