SUPHAN BURI - A medium arrested for the rape and murder of a 20-year-old university student he met on Facebook has allegedly confessed he gave her drinking water laced with pesticide before sexually abusing her - and then she convulsed and died.
Kritsada Jai-eua, 20, was taken by police for a crime re-enactment at his house in tambon Thung Khok of Suphan Buri’s Song Phi Nong district on Friday. Angry neigbhours gathered outisde and put a curse on him, Thai media reported.
According to police, the suspect had admitted he raped and killed a 20-year-old Rajabhat University student at his house, which served as a Phu Sua shrine. The woman's body was found dumped in a paddy field in Suphan Buri on Thursday afternoon.
Police investigators arrested Mr Kritsada at his house on Thursday night.
The 20-year-old medium allegedly confessed, telling police he had known the victim on Facebook for three years before arranging an appointment to perform a ritual for her at his house on Jan 19. When she arrived at his house that morning, she complained of a stomachache. He told her to complete the ritual first, and then return home.
He also tried to persuade her to have sex with him, but she refused, according to police. He then gave her a drink of water laced with a pesticide used on grass, saying the drink would cure her discomfort.
After drinking it, the woman became woozy, vomited and felt exhausted. The suspect admitted he then grasped the opportunity and raped her by the shrine, police said. The woman later convulsed, with saliva coming out from her mouth, and died.
He placed her body in a pushcart and later dumped it in a paddy field not far from his house, according to police. He placed an empty fertiliser sack over the body and then covered it with stones.
Witnesses said they saw the victim enter the suspect's house for the ritual on Thursday morning, but no sign of her afterwards, media reports said. Her body was later found in the field.
The suspect remained in police custody after the re-enactment. A case was being prepared against him.
