NAKHON RATCHASIMA -- A jealous police officer was arrested after his wife and a man he claimed was her lover were shot dead at a coffee shop in a petrol station in Muang district on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Pol Lt Col Ekapong Promsuk, 49, an inspector in the administration office of Provincial Police Region 3, arrived at the Amazon Cafe about 5.30pm.

His wife Jurthathip Buakhlai, 45, a teacher of Ban Phra Phut School in Chalerm Phra Kiat district, was sitting with Pongpat Chotichum, 59, a lawyer, at a table outside the coffee shop.

He allegedly shot them both with a 9mm pistol  and then fled on a motorcycle. He was arrested later at the railway crossing behind Panja Dara Hotel in Nakhon Ratchasima town.

Pol Lt Col Ekapong  allegedly confessed to the murder, accusing them of having an affair.

He said he went to cafe on learning that the two had an appointment to meet there, and shot both of them out of jealousy.

Investigators said the shooting was clearly recorded by security cameras at the coffee shop. The shooter arrived there wearing a crash helmet. He shot first at Pongpat, who then tried to run away but fell down. The gunman is seen to step in closer and shoot Jurthathip once, then put in a fresh bullet clip and continue shooting.
