Three nabbed for tossing tiny bomb at Huai Khwang police

Three young men have been arrested for throwing a small bomb at Huai Khwang police station on April 23, Metropolitan Police Bureau chief Pol Lt Gen Samit Mahathaworn said on Wednesday.

The three were identified as Ekachai "Gap" Wonghachak, 20, Tossapol Singla, 27, and Nathapong Wongsawang, 21.

Police obtained arrest warrants on Tuesday and later that night apprehended Mr Ekachai at house No.41/22 in Bang Yai district, Nonthaburi, and Mr Tossapol and Mr Nathapong at Ratchada City Condo on Pracharat Bamphen Road in Bangkok's Huay Khwang district.

Police also seized a Honda motorcycle without a licence plate and 20 ping-pong bombs from Mr Ekachai.

Mr Ekachai allegedly said he made the small bomb that went off in front of Huai Khwang police station on Sunday.

He threw it at the station in an act of retalitation, because police had arrested his friend, Mr Nathapong, for drink-driving on April 14.

He said he had been drinking alcohol on Sunday, and later he went to Ratchada City Condo on his motorcycle with a ping pong bomb to collect Mr Nathapong.  Mr Tossapol happened to be there too so all three left on the motorcycle, with Mr Tossapol driving and Mr Ekachai and Mr Nathapong the pillion riders.

They went to Huai Khwang police station, Mr Ekachai said, and he threw the small bomb, which landed on the roadside in front of the police station and exploded.  Nobody was hurt, since the bomb contained no shrapnel.

All three were charged with illegally having a bomb in possession and causing an explosion.
