A man who allegedly stabbed his ex-wife in Surat Thani and put her in the locked boot of a car, where she pretended to be dead, has been arrested in Bangkok after five days on the run.

Narong Inthong, 40, of Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Chang Klang district, was apprehended at Rom Klao housing estate in Bangkok’s Lad Krabang district by Crime Suppression Division police on Friday.

The suspect was wanted on an arrest warrant approved by Surat Thani provincial court for attempted murder.

He reportedly stabbed his former wife Sunantha Pirom, 38, and believing her dead left her in the locked boot of a car in Surat Thani on Sunday. He parked the car behind Wat Mai Pattanaram in Surat Thani’s Muang district and fled the same day.

When she was sure he had gone, the woman screamed for help until people in the area heard her and forced open the boot. She was found with three stab wounds, to her neck and back.

Ms Sunantha was rushed to Surat Thani Hospital, where she was recovering. She told police the attacker was her former husband, who became angry after she refused to go back to him.

During interrogation, Mr Narong allegedly confessed to having knifed his former wife in a fit of anger. He told police they had been together for 20 years and had three children. She broke up with him two months ago.

Before the attack, they had stayed overnight at a hotel in Surat Thani to sort out their family problems. She told him that she loved another man. A quarrel erupted and then he lost his temper. He used a knife to stab her three times, then carried her outside, put her in the boot of her car and locked it.

He took her valuables and 30,000 baht cash before fleeing to Bangkok, where he rented a room at Rom Klao housing estate, where he was caught.

Mr Narong said he regretted what he had done. He said she had previously betrayed him and left him to take care of their three children alone.

He was held in police custody for legal action.
