CHACHOENGSAO -- The body of an unidentified man was found floating in Khlong Tha Khai, a canal supplying a water filtration plant in Muang district, early on Sunday, police said.

Pol Capt Thirawachara Chuaysuk, an investigator of Muang district police station, said the body was found by local residents, who reported it to the police at about 6.30am.

The canal where the body was found runs past a number of housing estates and communities in Muang district.  

The decomposed body was of a man aged about 50, wearing only a green T-shirt, was found floating near a contruction site for a dual rail track project between Chachoengsao and Khlong Sip Khao.

The man was believed to have died two or three days previously.  The police and rescuers found no identifying documents on the body.

Pol Capt Thirawachara said the body would be sent to a hospital in Ongkharak district for an autopsy.

On Saturday, the body of another man was found drifting in the Bang Pakong River in tambon Bang Lao in Khlong Khuan district.  The man was  identified as Yom Prapaikha, a native of Waeng Noy district of Khon Kaen province.

None of his relatives had yet collected the body for religious rites.
