Suspected serial rapist arrested in Chachoengsao

CHACHOENGSAO - A man arrested on Wednesday morning for allegedly raping and killing a 14-year-old girl in Ban Pho district on July 13 is also a suspect in three rapes in Khon Kaen province and an attack on two women in Chon Buri.

Pol Maj Gen Theerapol Jindaluang, chief of Chachoengsao police, said the results of DNA tests were known about 2am, and police quickly arrested Supornchai Nunoi, 31, whose DNA matched samples found on the victim's clothing.

The suspect worked as a log-cutter and lived about 600 metres from the slain girl's home.

The provincial police chief said Mr Supornchai confessed during questioning, and the crime re-enactment was set for Wednesday afternoon.

According to media reports, he is also a suspect in the assault and rape of three other women in the northeastern province of Khon Kaen.

He also allegedly attacked two women in Phanat Nikhom district of Chon Buri, stole their motorcycle and rode it to the house where the young girl was raped and murdered on July 13

The girl's body was found face down in her blood-spattered bedroom at the house in tambon Sib Ed Sork.

There were marks on her neck indicating she had been strangled with wire, long scratches on her face and bruises over her abdomen and shoulders.

The girl had been home alone. The 44-year-old mother found the body when she returned home from work about 4am on July 13.
